Boat retailer Action Water Sports acquires former Tommy’s Boats dealership
Michigan-based boat retailer Action Water Sports (AWS) has acquired a former Tommy’s Boats dealership in Clermont, Florida.
AWS, founded in 1990, deals in sports boats including ski and wake, bowrlder and pontoon, from six existing locations in Michigan and Florida. It also has proshops, offering watersports equipment such as skis, tubes, life jackets, wakeboards, and wakesurfers, together with specialist service departments supplying maintenance, as well as docks and lifts.
It intends to stock the new location with an inventory of Cobalt runabouts, MasterCraft watersports tow boats and Barletta pontoon boats, according to the firm.
Jerry Brouwer, Action Water Sports President, said:
“This new location in Clermont will allow Action Water Sports to better serve the central Florida boating community by offering not only industry-leading boat brands, but also a range of extensive services.
“With our dockside service and industry leading pro shop, we’re bringing the full AWS experience closer to home for many of our customers.”
Tommy’s Boats, founded by Wakeboard Hall of Fame legend Tommy Phillips, was a marine dealer of manufacturers including Malibu, Axis, Cobalt, Tahoe Pontoons, Starcraft, Chaparral, G3, Suncatcher Pontoons, and Crownline. The business also offered a full suite of boat repair services, rental services and retail goods and apparel.
It was placed under receivership in May this year, after operating for 43 years. Prior to this it had 14 dealerships plus nine additional on-water rental programs operating in operating in eight states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Tennessee, and Texas). The Clermont dealership is one of 15 former Tommy’s Boats properties being sold off following the bankruptcy.
AWS acquired the Clermont property as a “timely opportunity” that fit its long-range growth strategy, with plans to renovate the facility and re-open in 2025 under its own branding.
